Chelone glabra linifolia (Turtleheads)

Turtleheads also known as Balmony, Snake-head or The Hummingbird tree. American Indian tribes used Turtleheads as a laxative, antidepressant and to expel worms or parasites. Dosage is a tincture of 1 to 5 drops. When using it as a laxative beware that one drop may be enough but two may be too many! I don’t know any one with worms these days so maybe leaving that usage in the dust bin of history is prudent.

The only place I have seen this unusual wildflower is along the path in the wetland just before crossing the bridge to Mitchell Field.
