Latium purpureum (Purple dead nettle)

Purple dead nettle also known as Red dead nettle or Red henbit is a member of the mint family. Not many wildflowers out yet in the Park on May 2nd, but it won’t be long now. The first week in May is National Wildflower Week in case you were wondering.

I think I would wash it well, but the tops and leaves of young plants are edible and a colorful addition to a salad.
